Seeking to formalize the relationship between trust and finance, Paola Sapienza and Luigi Zingales created the Chicago Booth/Kellogg School Financial Trust Index. On a quarterly basis, data is analyzed from more than 1,000 American households, randomly chosen and surveyed via phone by Social Science Research Solutions (SSRS).

In the first quarter of 2010, SSRS modified its survey sample, approaching respondents via landline and cell phone, versus only landline as had been done in the past. Following are representative samples from the landline respondents (approached for Waves I – V) and the mixed landline/cell phone respondents (approached for Waves VI – on).
